WCEBIA -- Wayne County East Bay Improvement Association
-
How do I get involved with WCEBIA?All bay residents are welcome to the monthly meetings. They are held the second Saturday of each month April thru October. Check the Events Page for the location since it differs every month.
-
How are the membership dues and donations spent?100% of all membership dues and donations are spent on the annual weed treatment, opening of the channel to Lake Ontario, and maintenance of the jetty.
-
When is the weed treatment? The weed treatment is done in May or June. There are a few factors that determine the exact day: 1. A permit has to be obtained by the DEC. 2. The channel needs to be closed. 3. The water temperature needs to be at least 65 degrees. There will be signs posted and notifications going out to inform residents of the exact day and restrictions of use during the treatment period (approximately 14 days).
-
When does the channel to the lake get opened? The channel is opened after the weed treatment period and if the lake level is high enough.
-
When does the weed harvester get used? The weed harvester is shared among the other bays in the area. Scheduling is based on availability and need. WCEBIA has minimal influence over when they show up and where they harvest.
-
What invasive weeds get treated?WCEBIA annual treatment is primarily for Eurasian Water Milfoil and Curley Pond Weed.
-
What other invasive species are in the bay?Water Chestnuts which can be pulled by hand. We also now have Zebra Mussels so keep your boat prop up when not in use.
